just watched harry potter and the order of the phoenix.
and i must say that though it wasn't really bad, i felt that it wasn't that good.
i mean to say that the special effects are still jaw-dropping.
but the eye-candy doesn't make up for a screenplay that seems inferior to its predecessors.
i can take a few liberties here and there with the source text, but by god, this one really went out of its way to change many aspects of the story.
i take issue with one particular plot deviation. they changed the person who ratted out dumbledore's army!!!! (won't say who though -- panoorin nyo na lang). kawawa naman yung character na yun.
i wonder why jk rowling allowed michael goldenberg (the screenplay writer) to do that?
and while david yates is a gifted director, he pales in comparison to alfonso cuaron's helming of prisoner of azkaban (still the best potter movie to date).
phoenix was a dark book about harry's frustrations and inner turmoil. but i think the movie failed to capture that.
the movie felt loose, all over the place... it felt like yates just went through the motions, and was in a hurry to bring the movie to its fanstastic finale.
don't get me wrong here, i still loved phoenix -- especially the fight sequence between the death eaters and the members of the order, and most especially voldemort and dumbledore's duel.
i would have wanted to see more of the kids in action actually fighting the death eaters, but alas...
