insomniac brooding

It's almost 4am as I type this.

Work awaits me later this morning (bummer!), but I just couldn't open the doors to slumberland. So I write.

I tried to sleep as soon as I got home from my late night shift but sweet sleep, like a ghost, evaded me.

I'm usually like this. It's weird how, when I shut my eyes to try and get some zzzz's, the more my mind wanders and mulls over things -- how I could have done this thing instead of the other, or how I'd plan for the next day's coverage, or which stories to pursue for the next week.

Before I know it, I've already spent an hour thinking about absolutely nothing -- and my mind is still wide awake.

So I get up, go downstairs, turn on the tv, watch MADTv on JackTv (actually, the show's on right now -- background noise for the sleep deprived), as I lie on the sofa, waiting for the sheep to finally run out (good thing I have this blog now, at least I could waste my time with something new).

I read a book, about 3 or 4 years ago, which propounded the theory that sleep was a disease, that it was actually a state of temporary death.
The antagonist (yes, the contravida) was a scientist who was trying to find a cure for this death-state, saying that the "disease" was preventing the human race from doing other, greater, nobler things with its time.

I'm not sure if I disagree with him. Somehow, I think there is a ring of truth to his (somewhat) mad claim.

I think that's why coffee was invented -- as a cure for sleep.

I love coffee. With the thousand-or-more cups I've downed in my lifetime, maybe I've cured mine?

(Dunno what time it is... still not sleepy... but too tired to type...)

Hi! This comment is really meant for your previous post "Lonely Day"...I'm glad that someone in the Philippines likes Phantom Planet. They're a great band. I met the guys when they performed at my college and they were very friendly (not to mention the lead singer is really cute). keep blogging.
